Anne Frank We decided we would each do a page about the person we admire. Anne Frank immediately came to my mind. I asked the rest of my class in school and it upset me to discover they knew so little about her. So this is my page on the person I admire, and I am not focusing in any aspect in particular. I am doing the best I can on a page about her life. Sophie. P.S. The picture above is of Anne in 1938. She is holding a baby rabbit in Amstelrust park, Amsterdam. The picture below is the picture Anne pasted in the first page of her diary. ![]() Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt in 1929. Her sister, Margot, was three years old. ![]() This picture was taken in August 1931. Anne was three and Margot was six at the time. They are sitting on their father's, Otto's, knees. Adorable, don't you think?! "I lived in Frankfurt until I was four. Because we're Jewish, my father emigrated to Holland in 1933, where he became the managing director of the Dutch Opekta Company, which manufactures products used in making jam. My mother, Edith Hollander Frank, went with him to Holland in September, while Margot and I were sent to Aachen to stay with our grandmother. Margot went to Holland in December, and I followed in February, when I was plonked down on the table as a birthday present for Margot." She was safer in Holland, but her family's lives were "not without anxiety" as her relatives and friends were suffering from the Anti-Jewish laws in Germany. ![]() Anne in the sixth form of Montessori school. After the holidays, Anne was due to attend a separate school for Jewish children. ![]() At three o' clock on Saturday 5th July the doorbell rang. Anne thought it was her friend Hello, but it was the postman. That was the moment her life was changed forever...
The postman had brought a call up notice for Margot. She had to report for work in Germany. Margot was only sixteen years old and nobody knew what would happen to her. Anne's and Margot's parents had seen this coming and had arranged a secret hiding place. They had originally planned to go into hiding on the 16th of July but, when they considered the circumstances, they decided to go into hiding the very next day. Anne was worried. "Hiding... where would we hide? In the city? In the country? In a house? In a shack? Where, when, how? These were questions I wasn't allowed to ask, but they still kept running through my mind."
Anne was hiding with her family, Mr. and Mrs. Van Pels (but in her diary, she called them the Van Danns), their son Peter and a man called Fritz Pfeffer, who moved in later on. Later she developed a close relationship with Peter, became less close to her father, and quarelled with Mr. Pfeffer, Mr. and Mrs. Van Pels, her mother and Margot.
